Tyrella Beach and conservation area is a small enclosed dune complex within Dundrum Bay. It is a wide, flat, sandy beach two kilometres long and backed by 25 hectares of mature dunes in a conservation area. The beach offers a car free zone, off beach parking, safe bathing, dog free area, amenities, walks and tourist information. Lifeguards patrol the beach daily during July and August.
Tyrella Beach has been awarded the prestigious Seaside Award and Blue Flag award yearly since 1997 and the waters are recommended safe for bathing by the Marine Conservation Society. Since 2008 Tyrella Beach has also been awarded the Green Coast Award. These awards identify Tyrella as a well managed beach where you can be assured of excellent standards of cleanliness and safety, making Tyrella the perfect location for family fun.

There are several defined walks through the dune Conservation area. These offer beautiful views of the beach, St Johns Point Lighthouse, the Mournes and the rural landscape beyond the dunes.
Excellent opportunities exist to observe wild flowers and bird life in their natural coastal habitats. Discover the fascinating marine life in the rock pools and along the waters edge whilst exploring the seaside vegetation

There are safety information signs at all entrances. Also throw lines, torpedo boys and life rings at the dune edge. Mobile phones located in control and amenity buildings, with lifeguard staff.

The beach is open every day of the year. Beach centre and life guards on duty during the summer season .
